About Mrs. Donahue:
My name is Carly Donahue, and I am a Physical Education Specialist for Granite School District. I am originally from Montana, where I attended school and completed my freshman year of college at Montana State University. I transferred to Utah to run track and cross country for the University of Utah. While at the U, I found my passion for promoting physical fitness and over all health, and declared my major in Exercise and Sports Science with an emphasis on teaching P.E. In May 2012, I graduated with my bachelors degree (2018 with my Masters in Sports Pedagogy) and became a member of Granite School District in the fall of 2012. In the spring of 2020 I was honored to be named an Excel Teacher for Granite School District, and look forward to keeping and maintaining high teaching standards. I am excited to start the new school year and have a lot of plans for keeping my students active as well as plans to keep myself active in my spare time.
My Teaching Philosophy
I am excited to continue my career as a physical educator with Granite School District. I greatly believe in teaching my students the importance of physical activity and the positive impact it can have on your life. I know that by sharing my passion for physical activity I can hopefully spark an interest in fitness in my students.
There are many benefits of physical activity and I want my students to be aware of and experience all those positive benefits. Physical activity has a direct correlation with overall health as well as mental well being. By taking care of our bodies, we can also take care of our mind. I believe that by teaching my students about physical fitness I can help enrich their lives in every way. Physical activity is also beneficial for the classroom and can help engage students focus in class.
It is my job to show care, respect, and love for all of my students while exposing them to physical fitness in all shapes and sizes. I plan on teaching specific skills that students can use during team play as well as on an individual basis to improve and maintain their own levels of physical fitness. It is my hope that when my students leave my class they will feel energized and leave with a greater knowledge of physical activity as well as skills that will be able to help them in the future.
Why Physical Activity?
Studies have shown that movement increases brain activity and has been linked with higher test scores. Physical Activity and movement in the classroom can help stimulate students brains and help them learn while at school. Below is a visual representation of the brain after sitting quietly for 20 minutes and the brain after being active.
